THESE BOOTS WERE MADE FOR WALKIN’

Ok, so they’re sandals.  But Jesus wore sandals and he walked miles and miles on the sacred path, sharing in service, his mystical, gnostic teachings.  SANDAL-WOOD essential oil speaks and I listen.  Wearing sandals, or no shoes at all, allows us to listen with our feet, to the wisdom of the ages.  It allows us to truly get grounded and rooted.  The ears of the feet, our soles (no mistake that that word is an homonym to “soul”) know the walk we are really supposed to be walking in life, and it is not a “lone-wolf” walk.

In our soul and sole travels we learn - often deep and everlasting lessons.  Sandalwood, a tree that used to be used for fine woodworking until it was over harvested, has become an oil (extracted from her beautiful yellowish, amber heartwood) primarily used for the perfume industry.  This tree’s background runs so much deeper than that, and she does remember.  One variety of Sandalwood has the latin name Santalum Album.  An album is a blank slate - a potential repository and papyrus for us to document our learnings.  A colloquial name for Sandalwood is “white saunders”.  The color white alludes the purity of the spirit world, and in our sauntering in that realm, we evolve.  Mostly, Sandalwood shares with me the gift of letting go.  Her cooling properties speak of mothering and encourage us to breath out in life and trust the support of her arms - to really breath out - you know that breath you have been holding for 5 years? - yeah, that one.

We all hold onto some fire, the intense drive we fear we will fall and flop, without.  That same fire can and often does consume us.  There is nothing sweeter to me, besides the spicy and feminine and deeply wise scent of Sandalwood, than a highly driven and perpetually moving and shaking man, surrendering to a mid-day nap or to the desire to remove his shoes and stroll and feel the grass underfoot.

This tree also instructs on the wisdom teachings of support.  Anything we hold devotion to in life, will aid us.  No man is an island.  We all need a hand and the assistance of one another and our gift is to re-learn to trust that hammock.  Sandalwood’s roots insert themselves into the roots of other trees, and encourage us to do the same.  Sink into this beauty, allow her to do the hard work for you, let go and know she’s got our back!  This essential oil works wonders for calming any heat issues of the skin - rashes, rosacea, acne.  The silky and moisturizing properties of this essence make it a marvel for beauty and skin care.
